I talked to Payroll a little bit today about the radios and he recommended we just get the regular FRS radios. He confirmed that our commander for the Dredd game will be able to contact us on our channel. It's not necessarily encrypted or anything but it won't really matter since the maps are coded.
Payroll did I get that right? Bart?

| Sam and I are working on getting some 4 to 5 watt, 100 to 200 channel radios which will be compatible with Damjans radios...we will have to program them together. The ones you want should work with them ...Ill check to make sure. |

I still don't understand the benefit of UHF
There are 2 main concerns: 1. Channel frequency What is better about the higher frequency of UHF?
2. Channel security secured channels are not limited to UHF radios. There are radios that offer secure channels in almost all frequencies. |

The article in my last post explains the differences.
"If you are working mostly outdoors, a VHF radio is probably the best choice, especially if you are using a base station radio indoors and you add the external antenna. The higher you can place the antenna, the further you can transmit and receive. One exception to using a VHF radio outdoors is if you are using it in a heavily wooded area. Under these conditions a UHF radio may be able to transmit better though the trees." |

I'm not sure if you understood what I was asking. I'm not asking the difference between UHF & VHF. I can google and find the answer to that.
My question is what is the advantage, from our point of view, to go with UHF/VHF vs FRS/GMRS? I don't see that it really matters.

Did you change your radio link? How many watts is this one? Also, GMRS/FRS is UHF (450-470)MHZ
I am checking to see if there compatable with the two Im looking at.
Can you talk to anyone with UHF or only GMRS/FRS?
